The object of the meeting being explained Lhe following resolulions were adopted- Resolved, that the people have entire confidence in the committee of Safety, & that all their acts have Lhe full approbation of this meeting, & that said committee be continued with all its powers. Resolved, that we feel an entire confidence in the constitution & laws of our adopted country, & will at all times sustain the legal authorities in the exercise of their constiluLional duties.- Resolved, That Thos J. Gazley, D. C. Barrell, & Henry T. Hill, be a committee to draft a circular lo the Aguntamienlo of each ~lunicipality in the department of Brasos, upon Lhe objects conlcmplatcd by this meeting & that the same be submitted to the committee of Safety for their approbation- Resolved that Lhe proceedings of this meeting be signed by the chairman& Secretary

Gentlemen,

On Lhe 4th inst. the citizens of this municipality met according to previous appointment, to consull togclher as to the degree of credence that they should place in the almost numberless reports that have been circulated among the, & the best method of avoiding Lhe cloud of difficullies thal seemed hovering over them.- After the maturest deliberation, the council came to the conclusion, that there was certainly some reasons to exspect a movememl of the Government forces, towards the Colonies, & the greatest difficulty was, to divine the precise object & intention of that advance.- . But they or aware that it would be the blindest credulity, to believe lo its full exclient the idle exaggrealions, that for some time past have agitated the public mind- They forbear to express any opinion whatever, as lo the immediate cause, that wraught the present excitement, but deplore the evils that may result from the scisms, which have taken place. They feel, & dufitully fell: the necessity that [lorn] is for the existence of some medium, through [lorn] public opinion can he asscrtained & wielded with effect, against the irregularities of those, whose disregard lo the hours of the country, has distroyd
