To THE TEXAS SENATE 1
Executive Department, Columbia, 16th Novr. 1836.
To the Honorable The Senate Gentlemen, I take pleasure in presenting to you the name of William I-I. Wharton 2 Esquire, as Minister Plenipotentiary to the court of the United States of America at Washington City, and In making this nomination I have been influenced by a knowl- edge that an individual of more extended acquaintance in the United States cannot be nominated, nor one who has been longer and more intimately acquainted with the relations and true inter- ests of Texas; no guarantee is required of the nominee, for the faithful and able discharge of the trust confided to him. If it were, it could be found in the identity of his fate with that of Texas. Sam Houston 1 E. W.
