ORDERS TO CAPTAIN JOHN M. ALLEN 1
ARMY ORDERS
Head Quarters, Texas Washington 30th Dec 1835 Captain J. M. Allen 2 of the Infantry having received permission to repair to New Orleans and recruit men for the service of Texas, will proceed to that point, and has authority to draw on the Pay Master General and Qt Master General also, for such funds as may be necessary to meet the Contingencies of each De- partment, resulting from the recruits made,. and Expenses inci- dent, to the duties of Capt. Allen. The liberality of the Commit- tee of New Orleans will it is hoped, render all present facilities- The Capacity and high estimation in which Capt Allen is held in the Service of Texas, will insure the most happy results, from any facilities which may be placed at his disposal. Washington 2nd Jany 1836 Dear Colonel, To day I wrote to -you by friend Major Hock- ley\ and commended him to your kind notice- I have a moments leisure to write, and say that tho' one week has elapsed since my arrival here, I have not had one word of news from San Felipe. I hope Mr. Wallace 3 is on his way and will bring me news of importance-at least a letter from you on matters and things, in general. I am myself as usual pressed with busine~s; and thank God my Christmas times are over, and I am most miserably cool & sober-so you can [say] to all my friends. In- stead of Egg-nog; I eat roasted Eggs in my office. There was no fuss here, on yesterday, and I trust you had none in San Fe• lipe, for if so our country, will be ruined- the world is now look- ing on us, and by our fruits, we shall be judged. Union & har- mony will make us every thing that we could wish to be. Dis- sention will destroy Texas. I know well you,r feeling and your
