Wallace is important to me, as I hope to go on to the Indians, .and wish him for the Secy to the Commissioners of the Treaty. P. S. When I say " Houston will be on the march I mean; the army staff will be, at least a part of Houston- if last not least. Pray send Wallace, and the papers necessary to hold the Treaty. Barrett, and Alex Thompson, were the members of the Council who served longest and most faithfully. Wyatt\ and one also from Captain King 3 • Both the company and the detachment are under the command and sub- ject to the orders of Captain Wyatt. I have had much difficulty in getting them to volunteer for any definite period. But the or- dinance left a discretion with me to accept their services for such time as I "might think the good of the service required." I did think it necessary to specify some certain time, and that time, I conceived, ought not to be less than three months; if so, it would be burdensome to the country, without any corresponding benefit.
