APPLICATION FOR HEADRIGHT IN AUSTIN'S COLONY 1 Mr. Commissioner I Sam Houston a native of the United States of the North, before you with the greatest respect, make known that my state is that of a married man:?, that I have en- tered the country with the object of acquiring lands for establish~ ing myself, and being desirous to obtain such as are suitable for the culture of cotton of a fine quality upon the Coast, I present myself to you in order that you will be pleased to admit me and give me possession of a league of land that is situated within the ten border leagues of the Coast, and upon the Creek or bayou called "Caranchuas Bay" and number 3 according to the plan of survey upon the right bank of that and the left of the little Bay called Kellers Bay for which object I present myself to you in order that you may be pleased to accede to my application and put me in possession of said land with the understanding that I offer to settle and cultivate it in conformity with the pro- visions of the law. Therefore I beg you will see proper to grant my request for which I shall be obliged.
