Genl LA:\lAR Understanding that the Collector of this Port will resign or be re- moYed from oflke in a short time, permit me to recommend :Mr Jic- Greal an aplicant for the office he is in e\'ery respect competent & will do honour to the office, I should be much pleased indeed should it accord with your feelings to appoint him collector of this port- I ha,·e at length located at this place· & would like very much to see you here-old Sam Houston though I regret to say it is quite popular· in the lower Country or at least will he supported with a few excep- tions unanimously the old dog I fear will be electecl- I should be· pleased to hear from you & hope you will visit us shortly Very Respectfully R, R, BROWN

Feeling a strong desire to emigrate to Your Republick, and not understanding the Geography of your country, Nor the Law with you respecting the grant of bounty Lands to emigrants, I have thought proper to enquire of You which portion of Your country would be most likely to suit a Farmer From the western part of the State of New York and what Quantity of Land a man with a wife and three small children woul<l be entitlcil to under your bounty law.
