Learning with much regret that ill health had compelled you to abandon your post at Austin-I have addressed an official communica- tion to Judge Burnett-which I hand you enclosed papers for your perusal. It will explain to you my movements & the condition of that part of the public sen·ice in which I am engaged-you will of course add to my letter any suggestions to the acting President which m_ay occur to you- May I beg the favour of you to seal my letter to Judge Burnett when you have read it, & despatch Mr Gray as soon as your convenience will permit- Pressed as I am for time & important as you will see it is that I should return to Orleans, I should have paid you a visit at Dr. Hoxies had I not learned you had it in contemplation to return immediately to Austin-which indicates an improvement in your health at which l am much gratified. I should be much gratified to receive from you-directed to New Orleans care of Wm Bryan-your views & wishes upon the contingency of receiving an ad\'ance on our bonds.
