To His Excellency MIRABEAU B LAMAR President of the Republic of Texas Your Petitioners would Respectfully inform your Excellency. That they are Citizens of the State of Georgia, and are desirous to become Citizens of the Rep-nblic of Texas, and with that intent and for that purpose, Your Petitioners have thought proper to pray your Excellency to grant to them the privillage to Locate Lands in Texas under the Bounty Laws of that Republic and should it be consistant with the Laws of your Republic to grant us the privilledge desired and your Excellency will as the President of Texas, grant our request, we desire to to r sic] be considered, as our application for Citizenship, and as good Citizens ought to do we will ever pray for the wellfare of the Republic of Texas second day of September Eighteen hundred and forty WILLIAM JONES ERWIN [ ?] HICKS Brick Mason C. Sm Feeling deeply anxious concerning my Son Joseph Creery, who Entd. the Texian Service 1836. you will please excuse my freedom in thus addressing you, as :My Self & family are overwhelmed with Sorrow on his account, he was L:eut or ~larines on Board the Sehr. Independance Capt. "\-Vheelright when she was captur~d by ~w_o Mexian Brigs 1837. & with all on Board Mr Wharton Tcx1an Mm1ster to the U. States being one of the Number were imprisoned in Metamoros & then con- fined for Six or Eight months I. have not recd but one letter from Mv Son since that period & that was directly after his liberati~n from Prison directly after his return to Texas Revel J_ohn ~re~kernlge ·an intimate acquaintance in the Family conver~ed w_1th h1!11 m H?uston about 18 months since I. have heard nothmg from himself directly
