PROSPECTUS, FOR PUBLISHING .A LITER.A.RY PERIODICAL, TO BE ENTITLED, "THE RAMBLERS SKETCH-BOOK."

In proposing to publish the "Sketch-Book," the subscriber is aware that there are many obstacles existing in this, and all other new coun- tries, to retard the progress of literature: but when be considers the tide of emigration which is constantly flowing from the United States of the north, and from Europe into this beautiful country-and popu- lating its fertile valleys, and flower-clad-prairies with enterprising, and intelligent citizens, he is prone to believe, that the time is not rery far distant, when Texas will vie with any cow1-try, in the encourage- ment of learning, and the literary efforts of her citizens. As there has never been a work of the kind issued from any of the presses in Texas, the subscriber pro2oses to publish the "Sketch-Book" in this country. The "Sketch-Book" will be published annuaUy, in volztmes, of about one hundred octavo pages. It will comprise, as the title denotes, orig- inal sketches on various subjects. The first volume will contain fi1 1 e sketches- the subjects of which are chiefly local: to which will be added miscellaneous poems. It, will be in readiness for the press by the first of June, & will be published as soon thereafter, as there are a sufficient number of subscribers to warrant its publication. TERMS.
