· I CALEB Qurn a prisoner in the common jail of the county of Brazoria respectfuily represent that some time in the month of June 1838 in the heat of an affray I shed the Blood, and deprived of Life an unfortunate fellow citizen, for which a jury of my Country found me guilty of Manslaughter and Hon, the District court decreed an imprisonment of of [sic] 2 years from Last September. the Justice of which sentence I acknowledge, and humbly pray your e:,:cellency that I may be allowed to attone to my country for the violation of her Laws by enlisting in her service, and thereby retrive a character, which prior to that unfortunate occurrence was without stain. With a prayer for the posperity of your Excellency's Administration as well as personal welfare I remain your obt. Servt. his Witness. H.
