I have heen confined to my bed for the last eight days by au attack of the fever-but. thank fortune I am again able to sit np- Yesterday was the first clay I was able to be up since I was taken-but of this nothing further at present- ;\Ir. James Cole of this city a young Gentleman of Inteligence and good charncter a Lawyer by Profession is desirous to be appointed a notary Public for this "Port & Count.y" of Galveston- If there is such an appointment to be made if any recommendation of mine could have any influence in obtaining it for him- I[t] would afford me much gratification that you should ap- point him-he is every way qualified- The appointment is one not of much profit but of great Convenience to a Lawyer, in transacting his office business- it saves trouble in looking for some one to authenticnte instruments-I had intended to reque:::t you to appoint 1[r. Franklin Notary for this County as a matter of personal convenience to myself but would not make the re- quest since )Ir. Cole has spoken to me relative to his wishes-if it would interfere with Mr. Coles sucee:;s in obtaining the appointmrnt- but as there are two to be appointed for this County- (See, Vol. 2 pam Laws.
