DE.AR l\fnunEAU I have a strong desire to procure some cotton seed, from your re- public and as none are desired but that, which is genuine & of the best kind I have thought I might more safely rely upon your friend- ship than any other person. I do not suppose you have the leisure personally to fill my order but, that you can get some responsible & competant friend to attend to it- I wish 75 bushels-if they can be had low enough They have been sold delive1·ed here at one dollar per bushel. I should suppose they could be purchased there at 25, or, 37 cents. However-get them as low as they can he hacl, provided they will not excecle one dollar per Bushel delivered here I suppose they cnn be shipped to Xew Orleans & from thence to Savannah to the care of Charles Jlartridge The relations & friends in Geo are all well and pursuing the noiseless tenuer of their way The Union party have elected McDonald gov- ernor. Ff enry could have been elected, if he had, not declined a nomi- nation Van Buren will be reelected by an increased majority. & I think the Sub Treasurv will eventually prevail Do you intend run- ning for another term ·or is it fixed to one term by the Constitution LPt me hear from you When clo yon contemplate visiting your native land Yours Ever Truly JOHN LAl\fAR. f Adclressed :l 11irabrau B Lamar President of Texas. To the care of A Brvant. Ne,r Orleans [Endo.rsecl:] .John Lamar Octo. 21 '39.
