I have prC'sented a ten acre lot, numbered Two hundred and twenty nine in SC'Ctiou No. One on Galveston Islands, to a favorite Niece who is the daughter of D. Drake l\f. D. Late professor in the Cincinnati College, who was the devoted friend and advocate of Texas, and one of the (·ommitee h_y whocs exe1-tions, provisions, arms and those Can- non calld. the twin sisters were sent. which contributed so much to our success at the battle of Saujacinto under your command. Her name is Elizabeth, 1'I ansfield Mc Guffey, I want the patent to cminate from the Government to her, so she can liYe in the United States or else where, and hold it in her own name, under the law providing for the sale of Islands within the boundary of the republic of Texas. You will sec by the Copy of the certificate as well as the ~ntrie~ on the books that the purchase money has long since been pa1u. Your attention to this is respectfully solicited, which will be gratifying to your friends, who may some time spend their winters on the lot, and will to yours under lasting obligations With Esteem your Sincere friend A liEN[RYl Republic of Texas City of Houston October 23d 1838.
