I should be pleased to hear from you at an. early a period as convenient praying that my request may be complied with. Sept. 1839- His Excellency President LAMAR, D&\R Sm Although possessed of a sufficiency to live independent of any em- ployment, I cannot reconcile myself to be idle, I shall therefore, feel myself particularly obliged, if you can procure me a commission in any Regiment as a Lieutenancy- I have been a member of the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues for five years also, three years of Riff,e Corp. being anxious to enter on a Military line of life. Trusting that you will excuse this application, and favour me with an early answer- I wish to become a citizen of a young Republic, establish the Constitu- tion for the good Government of our Common.wealth. I can give the most satisfactory and exceptionable reference character for propriety of <;onduct and abilities- I would recommend any Gentleman to you namely- Genl. M.
