Smith Red River Dist J1me 1839 Appli- cation for Dist Attyship No. 1364. SAMUEL M. WILLIAMS TO LAMAR Galveston 11th July 1839 MY DEAR Srn, I did not have the pleasure, as I desired and intended, of renewing my visit to you after our interview on the 5th. I regretted not hav- ing it in my power to call upon you for I wanted to inform you of my progress; and my prospects in producing a harmonious feeling with our inhabitants- Altho there are many details which I will not enter upon I can say, that I am flattered with a hope of seeing political opinions and questions placed upon a much better footing than they have been for some time past, and from assurances made me by some who mix much with th',! people and possess influence, I think a state of things bordering on such as we both desire will be produced. If you have not already filled the place and have no particular per- son in view the vacancy of the consulate in Boston, I should like to have place under the Control of Mr. Ralph Kellog of that City, will you be pleased ~o hold the matter under Consideration. ·With my best wishes for your continued good health, and renewing assurances of my esteem I am with · much respect yr obt St SA.ML. ·M WILLIAMS M.
