No. 1334. DAVID L. WOOD TO LAMAR
Richmond, [Texas] 12th June, 1839.
DEAR Sm-
The subject upon which I wished mostly to see you I did not men- tion, because of your indisposition; excuse then the liberty of troubling you with a letter. I ain about parting with my interest in the Rich- mond Telescope for the reason that the gentleman concerned with me in the establishment wishes to promulgate political principles repug- nant to my own feelings. As your ~xcellency done me the favor to promise your assistance in furthering my views, I am encouraged by the recollection of that promise to ask your influence in obtaining for me the editorial charge of the National Intelligencer. I have addressed l\1aj. Whiting upon the subject, and stated to him the terms upon which I would be glad to accept it. I shall visit Houston in a few days, when I wi'll do myself the pleasure of calling on you, and trusting in the meantime that your excellency's health will improve, I subscribe myself your Very obt. and very humb.
