I at the time applied to you Jor an appoint- ment to the situation of Collector for the Port of Matagorda and told you that a Petition signed by the most respectable Citizens of this Town unasked by me, soliciting that appointment for me, would he presented to you, which petition your Excellency, will no doubt find in the archives of your Office. May I presume to remind your Excel- lency that you remarked tl~at circumstances induced you to reappoint the former incumbent, but that if any other situation in your nomina- tion should become vacant. you would be pleased to give me your coun- tenance. I have heard that the situation above named is soon likelv !o become vacant and beg to offer myself again to your Notice to fiil it. In taking it if it should be in your Esy's power to give it to me.
