The situation in which I am at present placell, away from friends, without means, and unable to obtain employment,) is the only apology I have to offer in extenuation of the step I, am now taking of ad- dressing you, personally for the purpose of soliciting employment un- der your administration; and; in so doing, permit me to address you as the successful chief who, by his talents and perseverance, has rescued his adopted country from anarchy and confusion, and placed it amongst the firmly established governments of the civilized world. Having been informed that there are-at present, several vacancies in the different departments of the Texian Government, for clerks &c. I herewith make a tender of my services and place myself at your dis- ,posal as head of said government. I have enclosed for your inspection copies of certificates furnished to me by former employe~s,-the originals of which are at present in my possession,-by them you will perceive that I ha\'e at all times borne a high character for morality sobriety and industry. As to my qualifications- I am thoroughly and practically acquainted with book-keeping in all its branches, and am, also, conversant with draughts and copying plans. Should you return a favourable answer to my request you may de- pend on gratitudes binding me to your interests, especially while you continue to labour for the good of Texas; and that, whatever may be the situation to which you may appoint me, I will at all time dis- charge the duties of the same to the best of my abilities.
