TEXAS STATE LmnAnY

I have talked to many folks about our town &C on Copano Bay- think I shall get it fixed in .May after my own notion.- If I can get about five first rate men with some Capital to spare- I can make for us any quantity of Cash.- Beal says he will go in for a part any how.- Love will, I think, whom I would rather have than any man in the republic_:._he is talented in business & I believe the most honest (or among the most honest) I have ever met with, I have been with him now 3 years nearly constantly & have to see the fir:it act of little- ness or low cunning or any thing like it. I mention this because I want you to talk to him about it.- If he does go in I know he can bring men of influence & character & capital to any extent.- Another thing about him I wish you to know-for there be some folks that do'nt hesitate giving you a sort of a side wipe here when they can get a fair chance- He has on every occasion defended you like a gentle- man & a man that has his country at heart.- and I know he has been abused for his course by a certain set at Galveston, for not joining in with them right or wrong in trying to sensure all your acts.- I love every man who honestly & disinterestly goes in for Texas,-and will not hesitate to defend her abroad as well as home.- I am happy to learn that Gen'l. Hamilton's delay was occasioned from causes good & true.- I have not seen him- he goes, as it were, to carry glad tidings of much gold.- Ca'nt you slip in a word about that Copano land.- Now with him,-Beal,-Love-you & self- I think we could make n cool half million by next fall. $100.000 a piece.--one one [s-ic] in Charleston-Us three in Texas.- No use in trying these things with- out right sort of men.- If you can fix Hamilton, I can fix the other two.-Write to me here- if he wo'nt- I will look up another- I want you to have a fortune & settle by me in Copano.- And if we ca'nt get married, we can do without- Now do'nt forget this, it is, depend upon it the best chance for a sure· harvest I know of-the field is open & ripe.- Be sure to write any how.- Care of Wm. 1'L Beal.- My love to all your Cabinet & the girls.- Yr. fr. truly .
