And notwithstanding my pro~pects in a pecuniary point of view, are pretty good for this old country, yet, I nm dissatisfied! In consequence of the death of my dear unele above mentioned, who depnried this life, on the 6th. of last Novembcr,-consequent.l.r, the tie which once bound me to this section, is 110w severed. And I nm, ther~fore, disposed, and intend ·wrisking my fortune with the future desti11y of Texas, whaterer that may he, prodded the inducements to emigrate to that country be truly what the public journals haYe in- variably represented them to be. I have suggested my intentions to several respectable young gentle- men of my acquaintnnce, who promise to accompany me to that re- puied land of "MW.: and lf oney;· proYided they cnn see nny thing encouraging from that country, from one, upon whose account they can rely; for T asrnre you, that the accounts of persons here, who have visited that country, are generally co1tflicting. And being extremely anxious to learn something definite concerning it, myself, and know- ing thnt you arc extensively nncl familliarly ncquainted with its affairs, ·and bclie,,ing, that you will giYe us all the necessary information upon the subject, ure some of the reasons which have imlucecl me to trouble you with this eommunication- to which, I trnst you will respond by the earliest, convenient opportunity.
