As this will be handed you by Alexander who can tell you of all of our affairs I should have no occasion to write to you now but for the sake of my son Joel who has determined to be a citizen of Texas along with the rest of us. As, to all appearance, you will have some loaves & fishes to distribute among your friends, Should there be a morsel not otherwise appropriated I hope you will remember him. In plain prose I beg leave to bespeak for him some appointment suit- able to his capacity. For any office requiring commercial, banking or financial knowledge I think him well qualified. I have been thinking of the Collect,mhip of some of your ports of entry. Should you have any vacancies to fill I am confident you could not make a better ap- pointment. The adversity of the times has thrown him out of busi- ness, & he has to commence, de noYo, to make a living.
