Dun Sm I want you to do me the favour of precuring a few certificates for me in vindication of my character. A Mr. James G. Fananclers of South Carolina has recently returned from Texas; and brought with him a report derogatory to my character; he propagated a. report, on me that I was appointed by the government of 'l'exas an agent to this Government; to Sell publick lands belonging to the Republic of Texas and that I had Sold the lands . . [mutilated] the cash and made no returns; I called on Mr. Fananders for his authority for cir- culating Such a report, he gave up as his Authers, Laut Harris of Capt Smiths Company and Capt Jack of the Army; he gave me a cirtificate that those two men told him that It wa~ a fact; now to Satisfy my friends that the Charge is false; It becomes neccs~ar_y for me to have cirtificates from a few of the Distinguished jfen of Texas which I hope you will do me the favour to prccurc: T want you Tf you please to get Genl. Houston Genl. T. J.
