l\f Y DEAil FRIEND

This letter will be handed you by my brother J. S. Jones, who bas emigrated to Texas at my suggestion. To your care, :My <lear friend, I commit him, under the firm conviction that you will do every thing to advance his interests which is in your power. He is a youth of character, talents & sphrightliness and with a little encouragement and a fair opportunity will distinguish himself- If there is any office you can give him which will serve to bring him forward, I feel satisfied that you will procure it for him. I wrote you by :Mr. :Monell, a few days since in relation to yonr draft- I there stated that I had paid the money to Edwards some time before your draft came. When it came I had 110 monev nor coulcl I rnise a dollar such wn;: the hardness of the times- I regret deeply that my embarrassments will not allow me to emigrate to T(•xas, which I hope to do at some future day, if I live- Sincerely your friend W.
