stitution did not change the provisional or conditional character of the law which which [sic] united these proviuces into one State- Austin on his way to Mexico, bearing the Constitution of Texas, made known this object of his mission to Don Vicente Filisola then Comt. Genl. of the States of the East-this was in 33- he left Texas April- arriYed in Mexico 18th. July 1833-was well recd. by the vice President & Ministers- He immediately presented the representations [ ?] of the Convention & urged the object of his mission- July Augt. Scptr. past & nothing done on the subject of the Constitution- Misrepresentations recd. from Texas-The prospects of success destroyed- Austin wrote home Oct. 2nd. 1833. left for home 10 Deer. 1833-arrived Salteo 3 Jany 1834-a copy of His letter of Oct. 2nd. had by this time reached Mexico; He was immediately sent for, overtaken at Salteo apprehended to answer charges which he was told prefered against him at Mexico, but what these charges were he knew not- They took him back; on arriving at :Mexico he was shut up in solitary confinement in the prison almost a year- He was released on bail On the 6 April 1830 prohibited the farther admittance of Americans into Texas----other people might come but not Americans; the land law was suspended toward them- It was thro' the influence of his Austins exertions that this law was repealed during his stay there- On the 5 Novr. together & with Austin, and after a free discussion of the matter the Gov. was willing to erect Texas into a Territorial Govt; but this proposition Austin was specially instructed by the Con- vention of Texas to reject; he rejected the proposition- Austin in his intercourse with the Govt. rendered one servise in having the law of the 6 april 1830 repealed- It was on the 5th Novr. Santa Anna called a special meeting of his ministers with Austin to discuss the matters of Texas- in this meeting the application was rejected; but a proposition was made to erect Texas into a Territory, which Austin rejected- In the Departmt of Rexar, there are, 9000-Indians of various tribes - In Brazos there are 1000-Indians- Nacogdoches--4.500 indians- [Endorsed :] Miscellaneious Notes on the history of Austin and Texas.
