Trusting you will pardon my presumption in thus troubling you, fow1ded upon uo other claim, than a presentiment that your Excel- lency's well known goodness if exerted in my behalf would greatly benefit me, my term of Service is about expiring my intentions are to repair to l\fobile or New Orleans to provide myself with chain, compass &c-for the purpose of land Surveying for which I flatter myself I am perfectly competent. Sturges a native of this City, son of Oliver Sturge Esqr deed who was one of its most re- spectable merchants-and to ask in his behalf such aid as it may be in your power to afford him- · Mr. Sturges '"ill go to Texas for the purpose of benefitting himself in the way of fortune-he is a young gentleman of first respectability, manly independence, and politically a Nullifier-which I know will recommend him sufficiently till he shall have manifested his own merits to you- · Should it be in your power to assist him while a stranger with your counsel and advice- I shall be greatly indebted- Respectfully Your relative & friend G.
