[GOROSTIZA to DICKINS]
Legation Extraordinary of Mexico in the U.S., Washington, October 10, 1836. Sir: The honor and the rights of my country have been so seriously affected by the violation of its territory, and the subsequent occupation of Nacagdoches by the troops of the United Stales, that even though I should run the risk of passing for a person a little consideration, yet I find myself now under the imperious necessity of reminding you that an offer was made by the Department of State to answer my letters of the 28th of July and the 4th of August, so soon as the President should have returned. Fortunately, the President of the United States has a lofty soul, and can consequently appreciate the motives of my anxiety, which is so natural, under the present circumstances. Be pleased, Mr. acting Secretary of Stale, lo communicate this to him as I have said it, and in my name. I avail myself of this occasion to repeat to you, Mr. acting Secretary of State of the United States, the assurances of my
distinguished ?onsideration. To the Hon. Asbury Dickins, Aeling Secretary of State, &c
M. E. De Gorostiza.
