in San Francisco, Calif., by Bishop Thadeus Amat, C.M., of Monterey, Calif.; served as missionary priest among the Indians in the Diocese of Monterrey; pastor Our Lady of the Angels Church, Los Angeles, Calif.; appointed Titular Bishop of Aulon and Vicar Apostolic of Brownsville, Tex., July 25, 1890; consecrated in Barcelona, Spain, November 9, 1890 by Bishop Jaime Calala y Albora, of Barcelona, assisted by Bishop Joseph Morgades y Gili, of Vich, and Bishop Thomas Costa y Forraguera, of Lerida, Spain; installed in Brownsville May 21, 1891; moved episcopal residence to Laredo, Tex., soon after, which remained the See city of the Vicariate of Brownsville until the erection of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, Tex., March 23, 1912; died October 26, 1911 in his carriage en route to Mercedes, Tex., on confirmation tour; buried in Laredo, Texas.
