Professor St. John's Seminary, San Antonio, 1921-25; pastor at Runge, Karnes City, and Kennedy, Texas, 1925-32; St. James Church, Seguin, 1932-41; chancellor of Diocese of San Antonio 1941; appointed Bishop of Amarillo August 2, 1941; consecrated October 22, 1941; installed November 5, 1941. Served in U. S. Navy, 1917-1919, custodian Catholic Archives of Texas; member American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, North Sea Mine Force Association, Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Died at Amarillo, Texas, July 2, 1958. FORREST, D.D., Rt. Rev. John Anthony, Third Bishop of San An- tonio. B. Saint Martin-La-Surete, Canton St. Germain, France, Decem- ber 25, 1838; studied Seminary of Lyons; entered seminary in New Or- leans in 1862 in answer to appeal for workers of Bishop Claude Marie Dubuis of Galveston; ordained in New Orleans, April 12, 1863 by Bishop Dubuis. First assignment San Antonio, Texas, 1863-65; St. Mary's Church at Hallettsville, 1865-95; appointed Bishop of San Antonio, August 27, 1895; consecrated in San Fernando Cathedral, San Antonio, Texas, Octo- ber 28, 1895 by Archbishop Francois Janssens, of New Orleans, assisted by Bishop Edward Fitzgerald, of Little Rock, Ark., and Bishop Nicholas A. Gallagher, of Galveston; requested assistant in 1909 and was given Bishop J. W. Shaw as Coadjutor in 1910; died March II, 19u; buried in San Fernando cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. GALLAGHER, D.D., Rt. Rev. Nicholas Aloysius, Third Bishop of Galveston. B. Temperanceville, Belmont County, Ohio, February 19, 1846; s. John and Mary (Brinton) Gallagher; student Mount St. Mary's of the West Seminary, 1862, where he received minor orders, September 20, 1867; ordained December 25, 1868 in Columbus, Ohio, by Rt. Rev. Sylvester Horton Rosecrans. Served as assistant at St. Patrick's Church, Columbus, 0., 1869-71; president Diocesan Seminary of St. Aloysius, 1871-75; pastor St. Pat- rick's Church, 1876; administrator Diocese of Columbus, 0., 1878-80;
