sculpture or with simple monuments, the notable historical and mission sites in the State. Father Foik did not live to see the completion of the work to which he had dedicated all his time and energies for many years. After suffering a long and lingering illness, he died unexpectedly at Austin on March I , 1941. Through his work he brought great credit to his own Religious Congregation, to St. Edward's University, and to the Knights of Colum- bus in Texas. The Historical Commission appealed to the Very Reverend Provincial of the Holy Cross Fathers at Notre Dame to appoint a successor to Father Foik. Father James P. Gibbons, C.S.C., St. Edward's University, was appointed, and again the Knights of Columbus felt fortunate in the choice made. Father Gibbons, recognized for his many accomplishments, and the many varied responsibilities he held at the University, undertook this new assignment with the same zeal and enthusiasm of his revered predecessor. Under the editorship of Father Gibbons the remaining vol- umes of the series have appeared, and these will remain a glowing testi- monial to his qualities of scholarship. to his love of the Church, and to his devotion to Columbianism.
