under such titles as "You hear strange things about Catholics," "The Bible is a Catholic Book," "Why Millions call him Holy Father," and "Confessions? Ask the man who goes there." More than I 50,000 inquirie~ poured in response during the first year. It was evident that among many readers who hungered for the truth, ignorance and bigotry were being dispelled. The letters received were varied. Some frankly admitted, "you made me think," others asked for additional information on one or another point, and some asked for instruction in the faith. When the advertise- ments first appeared, over I I ,ooo asked for and were sent a specially prepared course of religious instructions. Many councils throughout the country inserted the advertisements prepared by the Supreme Board in their local papers, reaching by this means an entirely different group of readers. The advertisements have continued and have appeared in many national magazines of wide circulation as Look, American Magazine, the Star Weekly of Toronto, Canada, and dozens of others. The response continues to be tremendous, revealing in an astonishing manner the countless number of men and women who throughout this country and Canada hunger and long for religious truth today. They have eagerly accepted explanations about the Church by Catholics, and welcome the opportunity to find out more about it. From Houston came a letter that is typical of the change which the religious advertisements of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus are effecting. "Whoever would have thought," says the correspondent, "that a clipping from a magazine could lead to this! For the first time I have something fit to teach my two little boys." Who knows how far-reaching the many works of the Knights of Colum- bus in Texas alone have been nor how far they will continue to spread? Great is the power of good, and boundless the courage that Christian Faith can give to those who burn with a desire to help bring a knowledge of the truth to their fellow men through the practice of the greatest of virtues, charity. Truly did the Lord say, "Ye men of little Faith," in pointing out what men can do when they believe. On another occasion he explained the nature and greatness of charity, a cardinal virtue that covers a multitude of sins.
