c.harge of the Spanish-speaking parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Port Arthur, Texas. The parish had been founded by the Reverend Marcelino Ruiz, an exiled priest from the Diocese of N uevo Leon, who began work among the Spanish-speaking of Port Arthur in 1927. Upon his return to Mexico in 1931, the parish was turned over to the Augustinians with Father Salterain, O.S.A., as Superior. Other missionaries at Port Arthur were Fathers Basil F. Fresno, O.S.A., Porifio Fernandez, O.S.A., Jose M. Castellanos, 0.S.A., and Luis Urriza, O.S.A. Shortly after taking over Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Port Arthur, they began to take care of the mission of Our Lady of Lourdes at Vidor, Texas, which became a parish in 1948 with Reverend Tobibio de Oi'iate, O.S.A., as Pastor. The parish school is in care of the Sisters of Divine Providence of Our Lady of the Lake convent in San Antonio. 15 15 The data summarized here is taken from correspondence of the Reverend Basil F.
