Pedro Ricardo, a 40-year-old cowboy from Bexar, who had married Antonia Sabalza, 19, from Coahuila; Facundo Ricardo, 27, Ignacio Ricardo, 19, and Luciano Gamez, 16, Indian cowhands from Bexar; and 60-year-old Concepcion Abrego, from Coahuila. 33 Rancho de San Cayetano y Paso de las Huitas was the property of Jose Antonio Carvajal, a native of Bexar, 40 years old, who lived with his 33-year-old wife, Maria Gertrudis Sanchez, also of Bexar, and his three children: Teodora, Jose Luis, and Jose Maria, ranging from four to one years of age. His was not a very prosperous ranch. He possessed 3 cows, I heifer, I horse, I mare, 3 yoke of oxen, and I cart; and he had only one helper, Francisco Sosa, a young boy, 18 years old, from Bexar. Ignacio Rodriguez, of Bexar, lived with his wife, Antonia Bueno, on his property, Rancho de la Candelaria. He possessed 25 milch cows,_ 25 heifers, 12 mares, 4 tame horses, 1 stud, 1 colt, 1 mule, 4 yoke of oxen, and 1 cart. His helpers were Francisco Hernandez, of Santa Rosa, Coahuila; Miguel Silvia and his wife, Maria de los Dolores Villanueva, both from Bexar. An old bachelor of 46, Melchor Martinez, also lived on this ranch. He was a native of old Castile, and possessed 4 horses and I mule. 31 Jose Flores, a native of Bexar, lived on Rancho de San Nicolas with his 33-year-old wife from Bexar, Maria Antonia Rodriguez, and their six children: Manuel, 11, Josefa, 9, Jose Maria, 7, Salvador, 5, Gertrudis, 3, and Jose Ignacio, 1. They had 45 milch cows, 37 heifers, 30 bullocks, 7 tame horses, 5 mares, 1 colt, 6 yoke of oxen, and 2 carts. Their servants were Jose Maria Garcia, 37, a cowboy from Aguascalientes, and Paulin Benitez, 36, a farmer from Bexar. Santa Rita de las Islitas was owned by Joaquin Leal, a citizen of Bexar, who lived with his 37-year-old wife, Ana Maria Arocha, also of Bexar, and his five grown children: Clemente, 21, Simon, 20, Antonio, 19, Juana, 18, and Consolaci6n, 17. He owned 160 milch cows, 29 bulls, 30 bullocks, 40 heifers, 105 calves, 36 oxen, 12 hogs, 1 I tame horses, I I mares, 1 stud, r mule, and 2 carts. He had two helpers: Miguel Montalvo, a native of Camargo, 58, and Pedro Ramirez, 57, a free Negro from Guinea, who owned 2 horses. 35
