Father Muro, who enjoyed the respect and love of the people of Goliad, accepted an appointment as chaplain of the garrison and pastor of the townspeople. He remained in Goliad until January, 1833, when he received instructions from the Guardian to return to the College of Zacatecas. The high esteem in which he was held by the members of his Order was shown on his arrival in Zacatecas by his appointment as Discreturio and Master of Novices. 54 Frtu1d11lent elections in San Patricio. On the eve of the Revolution accusations of bribery in the municipal elections held in the spring of 1834 were angrily hurled by the citizens of San Patricio. It was charged that Alcalde O'Daugherty, afraid of being discovered embezzling funds, had bribed voters to defeat John Carrol. It was further alleged that Father Malloy had denounced McGloin and McMullen from the pulpit as traitors unfit for public office, thereby taking advantage of the ig- norant and contributing to the defeat of Carrol. Musquiz ordered an investigation. When Francisco Leal, who had requested the disqualifica- tion of the elected, was cross-examined, he admitted that the charges were groundless and that he had no knowledge of any such activities on the part of O'Daugherty and Father Malloy.ss Conditions in Nacogdoches.
