No. 2585 1858 Feb. 4, G. H. BOWLY, [NEW YORK] TO M. B. LAMAR, [MANAGUA, NICARAGUA] 47 New York Feby. 4th. 1858 Sir I have received letters from our house in San Juan del Sur in which I am informed that the officials of the place are giv- ing us all sorts of unwarantable trouble - they are allowing persons to make up accounts against us, and give them judgments against us for the amounts, - the greatest claim and outrage is of one Thos. Temple who is suing us for 750. dollars. We owe him perhaps 50. dollars which I have ordered to be paid him, but knowing how we have been outraged before he thinks he can rob us with impunity - and unless we have some protection he will surely do it. The natives look upon all americans as their "natural enemies" and of course we are not exceptions. I do hope, Sir, you will give us all the assistance you can, to prevent our property being sacrificed until I can return, and oblige To the Honorable Genl. Lamar Minister fo Nicaragua Your Most respectful and obt. servant George H. Bowly. No. 2586 1858 Feb. 5, J. THOMAS, [NICARAGUA] TO M. B.
