The Washington Union has an article in which it says that the· Govt. will do everything it can to stop Walker: but that if the French or English vessells of war should interfere with him that it would create an immense sympathy in his. (Walkers) favor and thousands would rush to Central America to his rescue in spite of the Govt. and that a fracas between England & France against the U. S. would grow out. Such an article from the Union at this time means somethig. The Presidents Message is received. come out strong on the Central Arnn. question - just as I expected - says the Nicaraguan buisness must be at once settled the Transit opened. Ile calls upon Congress for power to act. We are on the eve, I believe of stirring events here in Nicaragua. Walker has not as .yet turned up but it is expected that he will be heard from on the coast in a few days. I will send you N. Y. papers as soon as I can get them. Field will probably be here tomorrow or next day. I will hurry him up so that he will probably be in Managua on Friday - I hope you are in your usual good health and that you do not fail to pay your respects regularly to the "gallant young officer" at your -elbow.
