My Dear General
You will find enclosed the receipt for your two boxes - they were marked on the bottom and a card tacked on the top marked "Genl. M. B. Lamar U. S. Minister to Nicaragua on board Steamer Moses Taylor for Aspinwal" but notwithstanding this direction you had better go to the office of the Adams Express Company no 59 Broad- way immediately on receipt of this and see if they have arrived and been sent as directed on board the Moses Taylor.- In fact you should see in person that they are on board for you cannot trust to others and least of all - as I know by my own experience - to the Express - I also enclose for Mr. Debrin his passport and a letter for Cullen I think the government will take energetic measures for the protection of Amer- ican interests in Nicaragua and if Col. Fabeno calls on you on this sub- ject please mention it to him as we are jointly interested in some val- uable mines in that country Pleasant voyage and success to your mission Your Friend William L Cazneau Genl. M. B. Lamar

Great excitement prevails in the U. S. in relation to the Central American question and it is the only theme discussed in the journal of the day. Quite a questien had been made between the U. S. & Great Britain out of the registry of the Steamer Catharine Maria in the river
