·Genl. M. B. Lamar,
Dr. Cousin,
I have yrs 18th. Inst, recd. this morning from Savh - I telegraph you to go ahead & arrange my debt, by the payment to me as you propose of $1,000 annually from your salary, till I am fully paid - for which, please leave with Mr. Cobb the necessary docu- ments in my favor, that I may draw it, regularly - On my return from Savh, finding no letter from you, I sent your order. on Mr McGehee to him & ought to get a reply this week - but if he changes his previous course & pays me any thing I shall of course, not take my ·pay out of your salary orders, beyond what will be due me including, what I may get from ~im .- You are very ready to lay all the cause of difficulty on me, with- out remembering that you not only have not complied with the terms of my letter 28 of July to you, nor had even given me the little courtesy of an answer to it - I know not why you did not get my letter with the order first sent me on McGehee - I sent it to you - was all I could do - but as you never think proper to reply to any letters from me I supposed you had it - Times have altered with me since I wrote you in Jl!,ly & thought you might as well pay me monies I had advanced you - to save your property & estate from sacrifice, as to pay it - for the expences of those to accompany you, who had better remain at home - I expect an answer to this letter & the documents to be left with 1\'lr. Cobb in due form to obtain the 1000$ a year from your salary -
