With the Diplomatic Commissions to [sic] gave me I succeed in procuring the recognition of the Independence of Texas after intense labors in the. face of the antislavery prejudices of Europe with its principal [ ?] Powers - 8. ln 18-!2, l succee<l in London by a proceeding the admiralty in causing two large Mexican war Steamer to be disarmed that were about to proceed to Texas of Texas [sic] to carry desolation conflara- tion [conflagration] to her coast · 9. I was ignominously recalled by Genl. Houston after performing such service & not allowed to exchange the Rubbish of my own Treaties in 1841 - 9. Since that period I have been a Petitioner to the Legislature for a justice yet denied ·with fortunes greatly impaired but a spirit unsubdued.
