sailed that night for Vera Cruz fur the purpose of communicating with a secret agent who had been several months in the City of Mexico- left Vera Cruz 29th. Octr. leaving the San Antonio off point Maria Andrea. (35 miles from Vera Cruz) for the accommodation of the agent, Mr. James Treat, who got on board of her in a few days and died on his passage to Galveflton- proceeded in the Austin to the Areas Islands where the San Bernard and San Jacinto were, the lat- ter having been wrecked a few days previous to our arrival in Novr.- sent the San Bernard to Laguna and from thence to Tobasco River and proceed in the Austin to Campeche to land Genl. Pedro Lemus who had been on board the Austin nearly a month having been met on his way from Tampico to Vera Cruz, a prisoner for his political opinions, and from thence went to Tobasco River where we arrived on the Nort Novr. when we met the Zavala and San Bernard-got in an anchored off the town of Frontera on the next day and after a short conferenfce wi]th Gen. P. Annarya, started up the river f[or the townJ of San Juan de Batiste, the Capitol of Tobasco which was jn the hands of the Central :Mexicans and garrisoned by five hundred a,nd ninety troops under the command of Genl. Gueterez- reached the town the second day (ninety miles from the mouth) which was sur- rendered on our approach to Coln. Sentmena, who had under his com- mand one hundred and forty men- remained in the River until Jany, proceeded to Laguna and from thence to Galveston where we arrived in the early part of Feby.- for full particulars of this cruize see my reports 7 to the Dept, (accompanying) of July, August, Deer. and Feby- the San Bernard had arriYed in Jany. and had been sent down with dispatches from England for the British Minister at the city of Mexico- she returned in Apland the Zavala returned in May- (18H) In June (1841) the Honble. James Webb went to Vera Cruz in the San Bernard but was not permitted to land- he returned in the same month The San Antonio was employed from June to late in Octr. (1841) on the coast Survey, during which time a correct Chart of the enti're Coast, was made and also harbour Charts of Sabine, Galvesfon and pass Caballo. In Sept an Agent arrived from Yucatan with whom an agreement was made by the Cabinet of Texas under which I went to Sea from Galveston on the 8th. Deer. 1841 with the Austin, San Arn] tonio, Seeger- and San Bernard, Crisp [? an-] chored out- side and on the 13th. Deer. got underway from Sisal- the operations from that day to the breaking up of the Navy in July 1843 are given in my Pamphlet. Galveston 12th. Nov. 1843 E. W. Moore
