LAMAR, CAMARGO, MEXICO. 99 Matomoros Sept. 30th. 1847 Dear General I learned from Mr Bee a few days ago, that you would soon be in Comargo, to be mustered out of the service- I con- gratulate you upon your release, from what I doubt not, was an irk- some service; and I hope soon, to see you in one more congenial with )'IOUr feelings and useful to the Country. I send you two Nos. of the Flag 100 published here; in one of which, you will find an announcement of your name as a Candidate, for the House of Representatives, i.)r Nueces and San Patricio Coun- ties, at the coming election in 1'9vember - It will give me much pleasure to give you my little support - and I have but little doubt of your success - I have conversed with a number of persons on the subject and find a general disposition to support you - I was in Corpus Christi two weeks ago - and had a long conversation with Mr. Fitzgerald - who wishes to be a candidate, and probably will - al- though I gave him no encouragement to become one - Judge Norton and Col. Kinney are unwilling he should run- and may succeed in ruling him of! the track. It i!'l however best for you to be on the safe side, and I advise, that you come this way as soon as practicable, and see the "sovereigns" on the other side of the Rio Grande- at Santa Rita- Point Isabel, Mouth Rio Grande- Brazos Santiago &c. It would also be well for you, to get to Corpus Christi and San Patricio before the election, if possible - The absorbing question all along the Rio Grande is the crea- tion of two or three new Counties on the river- from the mouth, to Laredo,· or some point above. It is expected you will favor and sup- port such a measure - it is a sine qua non with all of us- The neces•
