LAMAR, LAREDO, TEXAS 66 To His Excellency, Capt M.B.Lamar The undersigned members of your company would respctfully petition your excellency, that if consistent with th~ good of the service that we be lead immediately to the seat of war. We urgently and respectfully petition for a sphere of more active and useful operations than the garrison of Laredo presents, and under your Leadership, we hope to participate in victories which still await the american arms. The call which the general - government has made upon our state has not been responded to, in a manner, gratifying to the feelings of a Texian, and in view of that fact, we regret to occupy an <mtpost while our brethren in arms nrP reaping fresh laurels upon well fought fields. . The late brilliant victory on the plains of "flnP.na Vista" has super- ceded the necissity, in our humble opinion, of longer occupying thio post, and we deeply lament being compelled to slumber on "in in!!lori- ous case" while the flag of our country is yet to borne in triumph on other fields, The part which Texas has already taken, and the proud position ·she has occupied in this war, forbid that the 'Laredo Guards' should occupy so inconsiderable a post, - while the duty of the patriot, and the pride of the soldier, urge him to scenes of more active usefull- ness, We wish not, we ask no other leader than our present honored Captain, and we importunately petition him to lead us on, Saml.F.
