Austin, June 27th. 1846 Not knowing in what division of the Army, or at what point, my brother John may be, I direct to you the enclosed letter, which you will please deliver or have sent to him. Mrs. Webb and the family are all well-I say the family, though she has no body now with her but John and Pussy. Charley left here with the Dragoon Company, for San Antonio, about ten days ago-He was mounted on your lost war horse, and if Col. Hamey's command proceeds to the Rio Grande, as was anticipated, he will accompany ii, as an Amateur member. Judge Webb was still in Washington, at the last accounts, waiting for the Texas Representatives. As there will be a division of the State into two Judicial Dists, I suppoRe he is certain of a Judgeship in one or the other, in spite of Genl. Houston's hostility. At least, I hope so--An express has just reached here from San Antonio, ordering Cap't Cady's Company of Rangers to that point, and stating that 4000 Mexi- cans had concentrated at Laredo, and would make a dash upon San Antonio-This, I have no idea they will attempt-If they do, they will find their hands full, as a complete regiment of mounted riflemen left here two days ago to join Col. Harney. We have not heard a word from you since you left.
