of destroying the State Govts. & establishing a consolidated Govt. Saltillo was of the Santana party- Monclover was constitutional- Both representing their respective parties, struggled to ,get iSupre- macy- Previous to the meeting of Congress they took up arms against each other; they met & fought near the Hacienda de Patos midway between the two cities Grant commanded the Constitutionalists- The Constitutional party was victorious- no great damage done however- They were in arms aganst each other for some months- This fight took place in Novr. or Deer. 1834- Francisco Vidaurre was presi- dent of Congress, and Villa Seiior from default of the Governor & Vice Govr. both having died by cholerea of the state [sic] was invested with Executive power on the 8 Jany 1834-at Monclova- see Laws of Coahuila & Texas page 227 Early in 1835 the Congress met at Monclova. The Congress was a full one & of the constitutional party- The members from the pre- cinct of Saltilleo, retired from the body- After the dispersion of this Congress by Coss, a military Govr. whose name is not now known, was installed into iffice at Saltillio- On the 19th April 1834 a law was passed by Congress, giving to the Governor the disposition of "four hundred sitios"- of Land for the protection of the state against the Indians. The lands were to be disposed of under the sole direction & discression of the Governor. On the 13th day of May 1835-a contract wa; entered into between the Govr. & three individuals, Saml. M Williams, F. Johnson & Peoples,- These men were to raise, arm & equip & keep in the field 1000 men for one year, the arms to be given to the state at the expiration of the year-for which service these individuals were to be entitled to the 400 sitios granted by Congress. The election for Govr. was held in 1834 for Govr. for 1835- Viesca was elected & in 1834 & installed in 1835. Letone was Govr. in 1832-shortly after eneterg on his office he died- Berimendi was vice Govr. & after the death of Letona filled the chair till August 1833- when he died. Then Vidaurii as presi~ dent of the Congress assumed the office of Govr.
