to restrain whites from misconduct towards them, I will answer for the safety of our frontiers. Sam Houston [Rubric] 1 "Houston's Private Executive Record Book," pp. 18-19, courtesy of Mr. Franklin Williams. Little biographical information has been found concerning Tod Robinson. A broadside of 1842, showing the name and other details concerning the members of the 6th Congress (Photostat in the Texas State Library) gives the following facts concerning him: He was a member of the House of Representatives from Brazoria, was twenty-eight years old, a lawyer, born in North Carolina, and had arrived in Texas, February, 1839, from New Orleans, Louisiana, where he had lived for several years. He was married, Bis wife being a sister of A. P. Crittenden, and they made their home in San Luis, which was· 222 miles from Austin. John S. Ford in his Journal, Vol. II, 376 (MS.), University of Texas Library, says, "Tod Robinson, the scholar, the lawyer, the statesman, has made his home, in recent years, in California; he may still live." This was written in the late 50's. No further information has been obtained. ORDER TO THE SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY 1 Executive Department, City of Austin, Jan. 5 - 1842 The Acting Secretary of the Treasury will pay out of the Treasury, at six for one, such claims as should be paid. Sam Houston [Rubric] mHouston's Private Executive Record Book,'' p. 19, courtesy of Mr. Frank- lin Williams. TO CONGRESS 1 Executive Department, City of Austin, January 5, 1842. To the Honorable the Senate, and the House of Representatives: The accompanying communications from the Treasury De- partment, contain information and suggestions which I conceive of much importance to the Country. They are, therefore sub- mitted for the consideration and action of the Congress, with a sincere hope that whatever obstacles exist to a proper trans- action of the public business, may be removed; and whatever checks are wanting to the due security of the public moneys may be supplied by your honorable body. Sam Houston [Rubric] 1 "Houston's Private Executive Record Book," p. 21, courtesy of Mr. Frank- lin Williams, Houston, Texas.
