upon as good terms and as convenient as possible, for the use of the Indians at the council. Make your purchases, if possible, on sixty days' time;-and if they cannot be had upon that time, then upon as long as you can get-taking care in all cases to give full and proper receipts, upon delivery of the articles purchased, specifying the amount received, the price & for what purpose procured. All accounts made should, also, be regularly reported to the Superintendent of Indian Affairs, that he may be able to keep his accounts correctly. The President desires that you should have such arrangements made as will bring him intelligence from the treaty ground, as to the prospect of a full council-the number of Indians in attend- ance, of what tribes, and everything of importance connected with the treaty. He desires, also, that Mr. Sloat should inform himself par- ticularly as to the conduct of the Delawares, and the fidelity with which they have kept their engagements with the government. Col. J. C. Neill and Col. Tho. I. Smith will be two of the commissioners. If Col. Smith is not on the ground, you are requested to despatch a messenger to him forthwith, with the accompanying note, informing him of his appointment. The President's return is looked for daily. W. D. To Cambridge Green, Esq., Agent for Lipans, &c. Sir- By recent information from the trading house on Tawoccano Creek, I am informed that the Comanches, Wacoes, Kechies, and other tribes are now assembling for the purpose of holding a council and entering into a treaty of peace. They have communicated their wish that some of the Lipans should also be present, to make peace for their tribe.-! have therefore
