WRITINGS OF SAM HOUSTON, 1844

To KENNETH L. ANDERSON 1

vVashington, 29th March, 1844.

To Colonel K. L. Anderson, San Augustine. Dear Colonel.-This I write you to enable you to arrange my matters with Mr. Griffith. He says, "I am told that he will pay me in land of valid titles at fifty cents per acre." I refer you to Colonel P. A. Sublett for particulars. You will have it in your power to ascertain that the land is of good or fair quality. Settle and make just such a bargain as if you were making one for yourself. I must lay about me and make all edges cut, or I will come out woefully in the vocative. Sam Houston [Rubric] "'Houston's Private Executive Record Book," p. 512, courtesy of Mr. Franklin Williams. For Anderson, see Houston to Anson Jones, August 3, 1843, Volume III, 424.
