APPOINTMENT OF AN AGENT TO THE LIPANS AND TONKAWAS 1
Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas, To all to whom these presents shall come: Know Ye, that reposing special trust and full confidence in the integrity, patriotism, and capacity of Cambridge Green, Esquire, by the authority in me vested by law, I have, and do hereby, appoint him, the said Cam- bridge Green, Esquire, agent for the Lipan and Tonkawa tribes of Indians, subject to such instructions as may from time to time be given him for the due performance of his duties, and the protection and interests of the said tribes of Indians, as well as to the laws in force for his government. Given under my hand and the great Seal of the Republic at Washington, the 10th day of February, 1844. Sam Houston W. D. To Cambridge Green, Esquire, Agent for the Lipans and Tonkawas: Sir, You will receive herewith your commission, or appoint- ment as agent for the Lipan and Tonkawa tribes of Indians, to- gether with a copy of the law regulating intercourse with Indians generally.
