Witchitas, where I have no doubt you will find most of the horses stolen of late, now concentrated. If you can carry the expedition into effect, you will send an express to Captain Dalrymple with a copy of this order who will, if the condition of his command will admit of it, supply you with a detachment also of Twenty or Twenty-five men for the expedi- tion, which will give you sufficient force to attack the Indians in body and if possible reclaim their booty. If you should take any white men associated with the Indians, you will know how to treat them as traitors. Should you think proper to undertake the expedition with a part of your command and part of Captain Conner's, you need not delay for Captain Dalrymple's Detachment as it might delay you too long and there might be difficulties in Capt. Dalrymple's detachment's joining you on the march. You have full discretion to do as you think best. I cannot give positive orders, as I do not know what your condition is, or what it would be wise or safe for you to do. You are on the ground and can judge of the means you would have to accomplish anything creditable to yourself and useful to the Country by such an expedition. You will use your own discretion as to the pro- posed expedition. Sam Houston.

Mr. Isaac Shuff, Dear Sir: Your letter of the 15th ult. is just to hand. Reply- ing thereto I have to suggest that perhaps you are laboring under a misapprehension as I have never owned a pacing stallion. Sam Houston. [Endorsed] : Letter to Isaac Shuff, Leesburg, Harrison Co., Ky. March 2, 1860.
