Hon. C. H. Randolph Sir, I would advise that the amount paid into the Treasury on account of the R. R. Sinking fund be invested in U. S. Bonds and placed in the School fund. By this means the sinking fund will be drawing interest and the money will be subject to ap- propriations. Sam Houston.

To EDWARD BURLESON 1 Executive Department, Austin, February 23, 1860. Captain Edward Burleson, Commanding Company of Texas · Rangers Sir, You will receive this by express from Captain Conner's command: with it two letters from Burnet County, from which you will gain some valuable information and enclosed you will find a circular and accompanying letter. As you will perceive these documents speak for themselves. In your pursuit of the Indians you will extend your lines of operation to the Southern portions of Eastland County, and use every energy and activity to give the people of that County protection and security. I have no doubt that the larger portion of the horses stolen are con- centrated in the Cedar Mountains where good grass can be secured. Should your command be in a fitting state and condition to pursue the Indians, you may find a large number of horses con- centrated in the neighborhood of the Witchitas.
