Mr. R. R. Collier, Petersburg, Virginia Sir: Your letter of February 6th has been received. Reply- ing, I have to say that in,1 order to prove up the claim for 1280 acres of bounty land, it will be absolutely necessary to produce sufficient evidence to· establish the fact that Richard J. Woodward actually served during the whole war. I have no remembrance of such a person, but I sincerely hope that you may be able to gather the evidence necessary to validate Mrs. Woodward's claim. I presume your lawyer at Waco is doing all in his power to secure it. Sam Houston.

Russell, Acting Commissioner of Boundary Survey Sir: Your report of the 15th inst. respecting the property belonging to the Boundary Survey Commission, is this morning to hand, and is perfectly satisfactory to the Executive. You will prosecute the object of your commission still further, so as to place the property in good condition for recuperation. Make all necessary arrangements to that end and await further orders from the Department. I intend to prosecute the survey. You will report from time to time. Sam Houston.
